Paranoia and excitement in equal measure. In 2 days I’ll be at the start of LEJOG. 3 of us will be cycling from Land’s End , Cornwall to John O’Groats, Scotland. Thats a 900+ mile (1500 km) cycle the length of the UK.

A mate and I are travelling 5 hours by train from Paddington, London to Penzance, Cornwall.
The first journey is getting to the train to get to the start of the journey… a journey of journeys through rush hour London for breakfast and boarding the train.
Packing
I’ve tried to minimise A LOT. Luckily I learnt a bit having done some ultra marathons years ago but still reckon I could reduce more.
And that’s where the paranoia kicks in. Am I carrying too much? Am I missing something?
It’s not until you actually start that some of those feelings disappear because by then you can’t change anything.
I’ve broken my packing into 3 categories
Regular clothes – for when we get off the bike. Goal is absolute minimum and a chance to let the body have a change and recover from cycling. Think loose and warm

Cycle clothes
Two changes of cycle clothes and each night I’ll wash them in the shower or basin of the hotel. Layers again with the use of a merino base layer in case its cold. Important to expect rain at some point and not try to avoid it. You might see my Cookie Monster cycle shirt in there because it’s good to bring a little fun into the adventure.

Equipment and hydration
This is the charging cables, lights, repair tools, electrolytes and the snacks for start of Day 1.

I’ll go into more detail later about the equipment used in case any of this looks useful for your adventures.
Next up – the train journey to Penzance
